My mom has always been a strong willed woman and has always refused to reach out to a helping hand. Last week her pride was completely crushed when my sister and I had to purchase her incontinence pads. The look on her face could have killed me at that point in time. She seemed so saddened at the fact that she had finally reached the age where she can’t control her bladder, let alone anything else. Instead of talking to her about the whole situation, my sister and I just dropped a bag of the pads off to her and left almost immediatly. We knew deep down she was embarrassed so we wanted to give her alone time to regather her thoughts. No matter what she looses control of next, we all hope that she realizes that we will love her no matter what happens.

In preparation for a Hurricane heading our way the kids and I stayed home, put tape on the windows, filled the tub with water, checked our stock of canned food, batteries, flash lights etc. and my husband went to the beach to fill up some sand bags. This was the first storm we were riding out in the new home and we wanted to do everything just right. He got home and began placing the bags around the border of our home. When he was done her realized he had a few left over and opted to take them inside for next time. When the storm was at its worst my family and I crawled into our safety closet and waited for it to pass. As we were sitting there in the dark I felt something crawl on my leg. I flicked on the flash only to see a ton of tiny crabs crawling out of the bags of sand. Needless to say that is the last time a bag of sand will be allowed into the house.
